Technical & Maintenance / Re: whirring noise after cambelt change?

Ended up renewing the cambelt and tensioners again, making sure it was tensioned correctly, the top idler bearing had failed/was bad, seems to have sorted it out.

Hi, thanks, the car was ok , just unloved and being run into the ground sadly like many but it is solid, so just hours of cutting and polishing is giving it a better look although its far from perfect sadly which is bugging me :(. and a good serving has it running great.
re the cambelt the initial garage messed up big style way over tightened the tensioner and as they had fitted new aux belts started blaming the alternator and power st pump. I spent the weekned investigating and  the noise has been located to the belt area, reseting the tensioner has quitened the area but its sadly taken out one the idler or tensioner bearings as now noisy so will replace this weekend, should of done the job myself in the first place to be fair.
Have my suspicions the bearing was faulty from the beginning, garage pulled out the old youve been in there go away excuse, which i expected, he was a one man operation who was snowed under and struggling with an overdue rebuild and rushed my job and messed up, cheers dave

Technical & Maintenance / whirring noise after cambelt change?
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:24:27 pm »
Hi all, recently purchased my Paseo and car was running fine, gave it a service and all good.  Booked in for cambelt and water pump change which was done and now there is a loud whirring type noise from that area.
Have removed aux belts to rule those out and power steering pump, water pump and alternator to rule those out also, thinking belt or tensioners at fault/noisy, garage dont seem interested and doing the usual its somthing else not what weve done, any ideas?

I may well be pestering you for a few bits as the car has been lacking a bit of love for a while!, still good and solid with no rust, just bit rough around the edges.  See from your other post you may have a tropicana going for spares? as as have a couple of shabby panels, cheers Dave
